Description:
| History-steeped Oxford, England, and its seminal twelfth-century university are the setting for a long-established program that Florida State University offers in concert with Oxford University Department for Continuing Education and Christ Church College. Participants live and work on campus in Christ Church College, founded in 1546, walking the cloistered halls as did John Locke, William Penn, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Matthew Arnold, and W.H. Auden. While taking courses either as credit or noncredit, participants experience the university as scholars within its centuries-old tutorial system.
The program is an incomparable opportunity for immersion in all things British. The Ashmolean Museum and the world-renowned Bodleian Library are just two treasures waiting at Oxford University, and the entire city of Oxford is an architectural adventure, exhibiting every style built in England from the eleventh to the
twenty-first century.
Coursework and excursions. All courses are taught by British faculty in the Oxford tradition of small tutorial/seminar groups. Students register for one course selected from the list that follows. Courses are offered only if enollment requirements are met. Please visit this page for any changes in course offerings. Undergraduate, graduate, and noncredit courses are available. A Bodleian Library reader's card is available for students engaging in research.
Besides field trips within historic Oxford, students will visit nearby Stratford-upon-Avon and have the opportunity to visit the picturesque villages of the Cotswolds. London is just ninety minutes away. Course and study schedules allow sufficient free time for theatre, shopping, sightseeing, and exploring.
Housing. Students live in single rooms in Christ Church College and take their meals in its majestic dining room.
