Description: It is called the Crossroads of the Americas. It is also a crossroads of urbanity and pristine jungle, of two oceans and bustling multinational life. In the Republic of Panama, the Atlantic and the Pacific lie an hour's drive apart. The city—a cosmopolitan nexus for world trade—lies an hour from tropical forests: protected sanctuaries for animals and the humans who study them. Where else can a student earn an American degree in a Latin American, bilingual/bicultural environment that combines the unspoiled and the sophisticated, the study of science, business, and the liberal arts? In the multifaceted, exquisite setting of Panama, Florida State University offers its oldest international program. For nearly forty-five years, the Panama Campus of the university has served thousands of students seeking associate and bachelor's degrees. FSU-Panama is a truly international campus offering a four-year American college degree. Whether students come for a semester, a year, or more, they discover a study-abroad experience that merges seamlessly with their full college career. In one of Central America's safest and most hospitable countries, a student body comprising some fifteen different nationalities gathers for U.S.-structured higher education. The full spectrum of undergraduate studies is possible, and because Panama City is the region's major international trade center, opportunities for global learning and research are exceptional. The beautiful Florida State campus borders the Pacific end of the Panama Canal. One pillar of the Bridge of the Americas, in fact, rests there. Our campus provides all of the facilities and services of a small college and is affiliated with Panama's City of Knowledge, an educational/research complex representing universities worldwide. At FSU-Panama, students enjoy full facilities: library (the largest English-language library in Panama); administrative offices; academic counseling (strong mentoring is a hallmark of the program); computer facilities; housing; and gymnasium and cafeteria. Sports, coached as well as casual, are popular, along with cookouts, open-air music, and the entertaining Night of the Arts when both faculty and students exhibit and perform their art works. Coursework and excursions. Full-time undergraduate studies can be undertaken during any of the three semesters year-round. Liberal studies requirements, specialized courses, internships, and individualized research provide a balanced curriculum for all students; Spanish language study is a requirement. Established or developing study tracks include environmental studies, engineering, computer science, library science, and tropical medicine and health sciences. Spanish study is greatly enhanced by the Latin American culture and classmates. The Panamanian environment as a whole is perfect for work in tropical and marine biology, oceanography, and business studies. Panama is, in addition, a natural for business studies, with some 125 inte
