Description:
| VFP offers over 2000 affordable international voluntary service projects worldwide. Since 1982, we have exchanged over 20,000 volunteers with our partners in 80 countries. These programs are an affordable way to complete meaningful community service while living and interacting in an international environment. VFP has opportunities throughout Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, Africa, Asia, Australia and Latin America.
Participants live and work with an international group from 4 or more countries for 2-3 weeks, providing a diverse cultural exchange with the other volunteers as well as the local hosts. 25% of VFP volunteers participate in multiple camps in the same or differnet countries.
Most workcamps are limited to age 18 and over with an additional 280 programs available for volunteers under age 18. 95% of our programs take place May-September. Volunteers provide their own transportation to the workcamp site/s and pay a US$200
registration fee per camp which covers the program including room and board. Programs in Russia, African, Latin American and some Asian countries may cost $300-$500 total.
Work projects include: construction/renovation of low-income housing or community buildings, historic preservation, archeology;
environmental projects such as trail building, environmental education, wildlife surveying, park maintenance, organic farming;
social services working with children, the elderly, physically or mentally handicapped, refugees, minority groups, drug/alcohol
recovery, AIDS education; arts projects, festivals...etc.
Please contact VFP for a copy of our free newsletter which provides a clear picture of what the program is about including many photos of workcamp volunteers. Our website also offers plenty of information on our program as well as links to most other voluntary service organizations worldwide. The URL is http://www.vfp.org.
