Description:
| Volunteer Latin America are currently recruiting international volunteers to join an organisation (as part of an overseas voluntary work team this summer) whose mission is to aid development in Guatemala by being trained to participate in, design, and implement sustainable projects in Guatemala. The main projects focus on environmental education, general education, reforestation, forest management, medicinal plants, small animal husbandry, and organic agriculture, but it is possible to develop any project that suits your abilities or objectives.
The host organisation train volunteers in all aspects of small sustainable projects ranging from reforestation, to rainforest products, to small garden plots, to stoves, and education. Volunteers need to focus and become proficient in one or more areas. Their staff have years of experience working with volunteers to make a difference. Once a volunteer feels comfortable teaching or working in a certain area and has completed a small project for the ecological park, they can
then connect that volunteer with a family, a school, or a community in which to work and replicate one of the projects that they maintain in the ecological park.
This opportunity provides practical experience for people interested in making a significant contribution to communities through conservation and education projects. It is one of the finest volunteer experiences in Guatemala. Spanish lessons with highly qualified and trained teachers
are also available.
You will need to be at least 18 years old and physically fit to participate. A background in Spanish is useful but not essential. Overseas voluntary work team members save £32 (US$60) of the normal cost to participate as a volunteer.
The discounted price of £158 (US$290) per person per month includes all food, housing (with local family), training, activities, bicycle rental, and use of all of the resources to work on a project. Volunteers can also take private Spanish Lessons for about US$3 per hour with qualified local teachers in their free time. Airport pickup or bus terminal pickup from Santa Elena is also provided.
