| Seriously interested in teaching in Sub-Saharan Africa? Then consider the Teachers for Africa Program managed by the International Foundation for Education and Self-Help (IFESH).
Positions: The International Foundation for Education and Self-Help (IFESH) invites applications from school teachers, college and university professors, and school administrators who wish to spend one academic year helping to improve the quality of education in English and French-speaking African countries, including Benin, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Malawi and Namibia. Since 1992, the IFESH Teachers for Africa Program has placed more than 650 American teacher volunteers in African schools, colleges, universities and government educational agencies. Applicants are sought with teaching experience in teacher training, education (curriculum development, planning and administration, methodology, primary education, special education, etc.), English, ESL, business, health, medicine, humanities, computer science, library science, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, economics, agriculture, engineering, social sciences, public administration and other areas. ESL teachers, especially those fluent in French, teachers of education and special education teachers are particularly encouraged to apply. Most teachers will depart for their host countries in September 2002. Please see the IFESH website or call for more information.
Eligibility -- Applicants Must: Be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of U.S.; be in good health; have a college degree; have a minimum of three years teaching experience.
Benefits: The Teachers for Africa Program pays the cost of placement, orientation, international transportation and health insurance, and provides a monthly stipend of $800 and allowances for pre-departure and settling-in costs and shipment of professional books.
