| A limited range of volunteer work placements is available in Cuba through Càlédöñiâ Languages Abroad. Prior to starting a volunteer work placement in Cuba, all participants must take an intensive Spanish language course of at least 3 weeks in Havana. During this period, participants will have an opportunity to visit their intended volunteer work placement and discuss the type of help most needed at the time. Any donations that you can bring with you in terms of materials will be much appreciated.
Volunteer work may be part-time or full-time depending on the time of year, the length of placement, your level of Spanish and the availability of specific placements. Most placements are for a minimum of 6 weeks and you can take your Spanish course at the same time (for example, Spanish in the morning, volunteer work in the afternoons). Cuba is a fascinating but at times very frustrating country to live in, and it is important that volunteer work participants are independent and able to cope with the demands of a cultural, linguistic and climatic challenge. Minimum age is 18 years. Older participants are very welcome.
