Description:
| Study in South Africa, one of the emerging democracies in the world. The University
of Natal International School in the heart of Zululand near the Indian Ocean offers classes
that explore community development, Zulu language and art, King Shaka and his legacy,
British colonialism, and the freedom struggles that created a newly democratic South Africa.
South African scholars teach all courses. GMU participants live on the campus of the
University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, with other South African and international students.
There will be field trips to battlefields where Zulu regiments defeated British soldiers, remote
nature reserves, and game parks. As part of individual courses, students will experience life
in urban townships and rural villages, and participate in community projects.
